Making a Way for Hope

The mission of This Is The Way Foundation is simple.

We exist to honor Spencer's life by creating hope, opportunity, and encouragement for others.

Inspired by Spencer's courage, compassion, and unwavering spirit, we invest in people and communities through scholarships, meaningful partnerships, acts of service, and experiences that remind others they are seen, valued, and never alone.

We believe one life can change countless others.

And we believe Spencer's life continues to do just that.

How We Carry the Mission Forward

The Eventually Scholarship

Healthcare professionals made an immeasurable difference throughout Spencer's cancer journey and inspired him to become a surgeon so he could help people too. Their skill, compassion, and encouragement cared not only for Spencer but for our entire family.

The Eventually Scholarship supports students pursuing careers in healthcare so they can become the next generation of caregivers, bringing hope and healing to families facing difficult seasons. Every scholarship is made possible through the generous support of our donors.

Community

Hope grows stronger when people come together.

Throughout the year, we host events and partner with local organizations to encourage families, celebrate resilience, and build a community where no one walks through hardship alone.

Every event is an opportunity to honor Spencer's legacy while making a meaningful difference in someone else's life. Join our newsletter to stay informed on the latest events.

Acts of Kindness

Sometimes the greatest impact comes through the smallest gestures.

Whether it's encouraging a child battling illness, supporting a family in need, or simply showing up for someone during a difficult season, we believe every act of kindness has the power to change a life.

These moments reflect the way Spencer lived every day—with compassion, joy, and a heart for others.

Our First Recipient

In 2026, Ryley McKeown, a Brandon Valley High School graduate, became the first recipient of the $5,000 Eventually Scholarship.

Ryley, who plans to study biological engineering at MIT with the goal of becoming a physician, said receiving the scholarship is both "an honor as well as a responsibility."

"He [Spencer] wanted to help people, and kind of being the first means that it's my job to carry that on."
